ROV Locator USBL Products

Cost effective ROV positioning systems enabling explorers, researchers, and search & recovery around the world.

GNSS Timing Syncing
$3,490

Cerulean Subsea Positioning - ROV Locator Mk II GNSS Sync

In the Mk II, the top side receiver and the transmitter on the ROV each have their own GNSS devices. Prior to deployment, the clocks are synchronized using the global GNSS timing. Once submerged the clocks free run and over time they may drift apart. About 1 meter error per hour can be expected to accumulate. Clocks may be resynchronized at any time by bring both units to the surface exposing their GNSS devices.

Duplex Acoustic Syncing
$5,990

Cerulean Subsea Positioning - ROV Locator Mk III Acoustic Sync
The Mk III uses the traditional duplex acoustic communication with a transceiver on the top side, and a transponder on the ROV. The top side pings first and when the transponder on the ROV detects the ping, it responds with a ping back to the surface. With this duplex acoustic communication, the two ends do not require clock synchronization.

Drift Free Syncing with Ethernet Network
$4,790

Cerulean Subsea Positioning - ROV Locator Mk V Network Sync

The Mk V implements top side / ROV synchronization over a common Ethernet connection using a private protocol similar to an NTP server. The Mk V simple and robust Ethernet synchronization is the best choice whenever there is an Ethernet connection between the top side, and the ROV over a tether. Network synchronization is accurate, drift-free, and independent of the speed of sound. It is however still dependent on the speed of light, but if that changes, we’re all in trouble.

ROV Locator Family

The ROV Locator (ROVL) family has two versions differing in how the ROV and top side components achieve timing synchronization. See below for details.
