Description
Unlike the other ROVL variants that use GNSS time (Mk II) or acoustic duplex pinging (Mk III), the MK V synchronizes timing over the vehicle’s Ethernet network. This translates into: no reliance on GPS visibility for clock sync, greater synchronization reliability than acoustic methods, and reduced clock drift compared with timed GNSS sync. The ROVL MK V also removes GNSS timing dependency and acoustic overhead, resulting in higher update rates of 1–5 Hz.
Networking & Integration
The ROVL MK V is designed for straightforward integration into modern network-based underwater systems. Compatible with BlueOS-based vehicles, allowing deployment using standard Ethernet networking. The system integrates alongside other Cerulean sensors on Raspberry Pi or similar onboard computers. Position data can be interfaced with MAVLink-based navigation and vehicle control systems, supporting vehicle tracking, navigation feedback, and autonomous workflows. The ROVL MK V operates alongside sonars, DVLs, cameras, and onboard computers on a shared network.
